Since then she has taken a role in pushing for the recognition of victim rights, advocating changes to name suppression law after a prominent entertainer received name suppression after sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
Nicholas has worked as a survivor advocate for Rape Prevention Education and has also served on the Tauiwi Caucus of the Executive Committee of Te Ohaakii a Hine - National Network Ending Sexual Violence Together. In 2015, she was the patron of a class of police recruits at the Royal New Zealand Police College and involved in mentoring and advising the recruits during their training. In 2007 she was named New Zealander by the New Zealand Herald due to her courage and in 2015 she was the recipient of the ANZAC of the Year Award and she was also appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the prevention of sexual violence.
